Doolin is a Foodies’ Paradise
The Burren is now synonymous with food. Its wealth of award-winning, artisan food producers and food providers tempt you with a feast of dining experiences, festivals, events and even a trail celebrating all that is local, seasonable and delicious in the Burren.
The Burren Food Trail was designated a “European Destination of Excellence – Tourism and Local Gastronomy” (EDEN) in 2015 – an award for developing a tourism offering based on their local gastronomy that balances sustaining the local environment with the promotion of viable tourism.
The Burren Food Trail is more than a listing of quality food establishments in the area – it aims to uncover for you the path that your food takes from field to plate. Members of the trail are passionate about their food, growing and producing it locally for you to enjoy. Decide for yourself how to follow the trail – stop at every point or else dip in and out along the way, according to your taste, interest and location.
The members of the Burren Food Trail are bound by their commitment to building a sustainable future for the region. Each of the featured restaurants offers a Burren Food Trail Signature Dish to savour. Each member has achieved recognised quality awards and standards, and has also signed up to the Burren Food Trail Customer Promise: you will find staff who are knowledgeable about the regional food story, menus which state the source of local produce, information on local food events and markets as well as a commitment to maximising the use of local ingredients in all prepared food.
Burren Slow Food Festival
The Slow Food Movement is about encouraging people to take the time to enjoy food. The Burren Slow Food Festival celebrates food, promotes local producers and their products, and presents cookery demonstrations by local chefs. The weekend involves an indoor fayre of local food producers with cookery demonstrations and talks. It usually takes place on the third or fourth weekend of May, at the Pavilion in Lisdoonvarna.
